Arariwa
ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE: Unidad de Microfinanzas Arariwa began in 1994 as a program of Association Arariwa, the leading development NGO in the department of Cusco. Arariwa serves primarily women in rural and semi-urban areas of the department of Cusco with credit and educational services, mainly through a village banking model. By the end of 2007, Arariwa had three branches from which they serve clients in most of the department of Cusco and some clients in adjoining departments.
Arariwa is committed to education services and promotion of savings as a part of its microcredit programs. Borrowers have meetings every month during which education activities take place along with the microcredit component. Topics covered include savings, health, family welfare, business management and financial education.
