ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE: FODEMI was founded by World Vision in 1995 as a credit program with the goal of helping improve the socioeconomic conditions and the productivity of the most needy population living in the areas where World Vision's Area Development Projects (ADPs) were located. FODEMI offers microcredit with a small education program, which includes topics on self-esteem, accounting, emotional intelligence, business administration and leadership.

FODEMI has four branches operating in the north-central area of Ecuador. The organization has been growing strongly and serving an increasing number of poor clients. While the majority of microfinance institutions in Ecuador serve more financially capable individuals, FODEMI focuses its attention on the poor. The majority of FODEMI borrowers are women, and are located in rural areas.
